ABOUT US

OK… “About us” is not exactly accurate… This is bigger than “us”…

We’re still in the process of ascribing the right words to the church we’re called to be, but here’s a quick snapshot…

We Love The Name God Gave Us

The name Emmanuel means “God with us”.

The name Emmanuel also connects us with Emmanuel Children’s Home in Juarez, Mexico (www.emmanuelministries-juarez.org). A large percentage of those who helped ECC get started are deeply invested in this ministry.

Covenant is a biblical concept. A covenant was understood by God’s people to be a binding agreement in which certain obligations were to be kept if certain benefits were to be expected.

Big C Church includes all of God’s people. The Church exists wherever God’s people gather.

Emmanuel Covenant Church – living in covenant with God and one another. If that’s not what church is supposed to be about, we’re not sure what is.

We Believe

In One God - Eternally existing in Three Persons (Father, Son and Spirit)

The Bible God’s inspired Word - And our final authority for truth and conduct

Our actions matter - Faith alone isn’t really faith

We Affirm

The necessity of new birth – Sin separates us from God, and we are unable to reconcile this relationship on our own. God enables us to become new creations through Jesus' accomplished work on the cross and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit.

A conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit – The Spirit guides, empowers and provides both the desire and ability to become the people God created us to be.

A commitment to the whole mission of the Church – We are committed to both the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).  This includes great attentiveness to matters of compassion and justice (James 1:27; 1 John 3:17-18).

Our Signatures

Everything we’ve said should be true of every Christian church on the planet. What are some of the signatures that set ECC apart?

We major in the majors – If everything is important, nothing is.  Not every program, issue, doctrine or teaching will get equal press or investment at ECC.

We invest heavily in kids, marriages and families – No ministries at ECC are more important than our ministries to kids, marriages and families.

We believe Pop Christianity isn’t Christianity – There usually aren’t three simple steps to anything that matters.

Mystery doesn’t freak us out  – We believe much of God’s revealed truth exists in paradox and mystery. We don’t disregard biblical passages that stretch our neat little theological boxes, cultural norms, or patterns of behavior.

We embrace the vintage aspects of our faith – We think some wheels shouldn’t be reinvented.

We are culturally progressive – We believe there are lots of things that should keep changing.

We talk like normal people – You can leave your English to Christianese dictionary at home.

We have short attention spans – So we value innovative and creative communication.

We don’t think OK is OK – We aren’t into slick, but we do value consistent excellence.

We don't believe frumpiness is next to godliness – We are attentive to design, color and style.

We love to laugh – We don’t card grumpy folks, but we won’t hand them the microphone.

We use the word “we” a lot – We’re all in this together.

We aren’t space invaders – We hope you find us really, really friendly – not really, really intrusive.

We come as we are – There’s no need to dress up or dress down and it’s safe to check masks at the door.

We leave a bit changed – If what’s said and experienced can’t be applied – what’s the point?

Our Win

Right Relationships – Everything we do is about developing increasingly right relationship with God and others.

Emmanuel Covenant Church

On paper, you’ll find that we aren’t all that different from many churches

  • We believe the Bible is God’s Word.
  • We believe in the necessity of new birth through Jesus Christ.
  • We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.

On paper, we don’t look all that different… But in practice

  • If you find yourself too liberal for most conservatives and too conservative for most liberals...
  • If you find yourself able to “agree to disagree” in matters of theology where intelligent, truth-seeking, Bible-believing, Spirit-filled Christ-followers have been unable to reach a consensus...
  • Yet, at the same time, if you are open to the possibility that absolutes exist and that they can be found in Scripture...

If that’s you, consider joining us in the journey!
